A Place Where You Feel At Home

Poor Richard's, where the pizza is warm, the books are wise, and the toy store occasionally giggles.

Once upon a time, back in 1975, when bell‑bottoms were big and downtown Colorado Springs was still figuring itself out, a tiny bookstore and restaurant opened its doors. It didn’t know it yet, but it was destined to become a magical place. A place where books whispered, toys sparkled, pizza ovens hummed happily, and neighbors gathered like characters in a very cozy novel.

Over the years, this little spot grew into something wonderfully unexpected: a bookstore, toy store, café, wine bar, and pizzeria all living together under one roof like a quirky, lovable family. Some say it’s the only place in the country where you can buy a birthday present, debate local politics, sip a latte, hear live music, and eat a slice of organic pizza, all before your parking meter expires.

And now? A new chapter begins.

The New Storytellers

We’re the new stewards of Poor Richard’s, Colorado Springs locals who grew up wandering these aisles (Sarah), raising our kids here, and occasionally losing track of time in the bookstore (it happens to the best of us). As the new stewards of this wonderfully eclectic world, we’re honored to carry forward the legacy that Richard Skorman and Patricia Seator built with so much love, creativity, and community spirit.

Our backgrounds stretch from local storytelling to public health, ethical leadership, business development, and community engagement, but our hearts are firmly rooted in the same values that have always made this place special: inclusion, creativity, kindness, and community.

We believe in widening the circle. We believe everyone deserves a seat at the table. And we believe that magic happens when people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and identities gather in a place that feels like home.

The Things We Treasure

Like every good story, Poor Richard’s has a few guiding spells: Food that’s organic, local, and made with love Gifts and goods that are fair‑trade, sustainable, and often Colorado‑made A stage for local artists, musicians, and makers A commitment to composting, recycling, and keeping the planet happy A warm, whimsical space where everyone belongs.

Our Promise for the Next Chapter

Colorado Springs is our home. It’s where we’ve built our lives, raised our families, and invested our hearts. We understand this community because we’re part of it, and we’re dedicated to keeping Poor Richard’s the welcoming, creative, slightly mischievous gathering place it has always been.

This isn’t just a business to us. It’s a living story, one written by generations of customers, employees, artists, musicians, families, and friends.

And now, together with all of you, we get to write the next chapter.

Like so many locals, we raised our kids here, celebrated milestones here, and wandered these aisles in search of inspiration (and sometimes just a quiet moment). Poor Richard’s isn’t just a business to us, it’s part of our family story.
